I still lov me some stretch arm strong. I had to be careful, or I would have just done 5 Chariot songs. I loved "The Chariot" that much. Probably one of my top 10 Christian bands.

Time for FOLK Metal!  It's definitely okay to post more than one song by a particular band, as this isn't a very prolific genre in the Christian scene.

I don't know if anyone saw this or not. I think it's long overdue for a new genre to be given

Wow, I missed a cool thread. Been busy with life and work and stuff. And a new baby. Poor excuses, I know.

I'm going to go back a little ways, if that's ok. If not, I'll do it anyway.

Death Metal

Short answer: pick five Crimson Thorn songs, preferably from Unearthed.

Long answer: uh...see above? Seriously, that's pretty much my answer here. That album is a personal favorite, just too good. I own three copies of it, so all but one of the reissues (REX reissue), and I'd like to get that one, too. I've probably spent about $100 on copies of that album alone. <--Long answer

Black Metal

Antestor--maybe Unchained or Benighted? Hard to pick a favorite of theirs, but it would be off that album for sure.

Crimson Moonlight--The Suffering; again, hard to pick one. I really liked their new album, just absolutely vicious. Could pick almost any track from it.

Evroklidon--probably Devilish Beast in the Eternal Fire, for how catchy it is, but the whole album is superb IMO

Fire Throne--here's my obscure choice. Holocaustfirestorm

Skald in Veum--Inferno

Beeroth--my other obscure choice. Nothing like an album that sounds like a murderous cloud of wasps with melody! The Darkness By Always Will Die

The second one was actually kind of hard. I didn't put much thought into it, so take that for what it's worth.

Of course, I didn't put much thought into the death metal one either, but I didn't have to. That one's easy.

Thanks for catching this, @The Bearded Dragon.  I've been busy and somehow completely forgot about this particular thread.

  • Extol - Open the Gates
  • Aletheian - An Open Grave
  • Believer - Unite
  • Deliverance - Belltown
  • Hope for the Dying - Acceptance
This list is kind of shaky, as I'm not the biggest fan of Prog. But there ya go

It's cool.  I like how you kind of chose a lot of the more progressive songs from albums that wouldn't necessarily be considered progressive.  Hope for the Dying has always kind of broken the status quo, which is one of the reasons that I love them.

Here are my five.  In my opinion, Veni Domine is probabably the most consistent progressive Christian band.  Unfortunately, it's kind of sparse genre in Christian metal, for whatever reason.

1.  Veni Domine - Doom of Man

2.  Veni Domine - Hope

3.  Believer - Mindsteps

4.  Menahem - Ocean of Tears

5.  Mantric - Water Through Fire

Ooh that's tough.  I'm not nearly as big of a prog fan as I used to be...  But here are some of my favorites:

Aletheian - An Open Grave

Aspiration - Black Light (does this count?)

Becoming The Archetype - Elegy (and MANY other songs of theirs, but that's probably my favorite)

Lengsel - The Pale People

Vardoger - Ctf

Yeah that whole album is just spectacular one of my most-listened-to albums since I got it.  So good!

These are in no particular order. When I'm in the mood for prog, these hit the spot.

Wake of Redemption - Artorius Rex

https://youtu.be/tNHGoWnBRk4

Shadow Gallery - Venom (although not marketed as Christian, it's all over their lyrics)

https://youtu.be/sR45jgDFUsE

Monolith - Prisoner of War

https://youtu.be/vDFQqH6LWzY

Faith - Emotional Retard

https://youtu.be/KKaqrM-Css0

God's Equation - Angels and Demons

The only link I found is for the entire 4-song EP.

It's that time again.  Prepare for DOOM.

Give us your top 5 Christian traditional doom metal songs - i.e. Place of Skulls, Nomad Son, Pylon, David Benson, etc.

I put death/doom in a different categoy that will come up in the future, so please save bands like Paramaecium, My Silent Wake, Dalit, etc. until later.

This is a tough list to make, but I'll just do one album per band so I get some diversity and to make it easier.  :)

Forsaken - Dominaeon

Place Of Skulls - As A Dog Returns

Nomad Son - The Darkening

Faith - Decades Of Despair

Under The Sun - Under The Sun

I've been listening to a lot of doom lately, but it's hard for me to pick favorite songs (other than one or two, maybe).

For sure: Evangelist - Militis Fidelis Deus

Maybe: Pylon - Cosmik Lizard

Evangelist - Children of Doom

Other than that, tough to say. Hey Matthew, I'd never heard of David Benson before, but that song was pretty cool. You got me to buy a couple of his albums.

Haha dangit I just realized I posted my favorite albums instead of bands.  D'oh!  I'll make a proper post later, though today's pretty busy so it may be a little while.  :)

Where did you order those David Benson CDs from Adam?  From a distro or directly from him?  (I know numerous people who had much trouble with purchasing directly from him...)

I just got them from Amazon, actually. Did a quick search, and his first two were on there.
