I was never a huge black metal fan before.   Over the last month or so, mostly from a lot of you guys(and gal) discussing it so much, i've been slowly looking into it and i believe it's starting to grow on me.   Some of the symponic and synth stuff, but not so much. The ambient has really done much for me.   Mostly  blackened death and unblack stuff.

Bands i've been checking out and have downloaded an album of here and there so far:

A Hill to Die Upon (I already had them for awhile)

Antestor

Crimson Moonlight

Grim (I posted a free download link in for it in that thread)

Blood Covenant (grabbed the 4 freebies posted in that thread)

Evroklidon (another freebie i posted the link for)

Armath Sargon (checking it out on spotify as i'm typing this.  Kinda digging the synth elements)

Eternal Emporer (again, from the freebies)

So, black metal fans, I'd like y'all to load me up with some solid recomendations please.

and..................go!

Hey. Some people don't like it, but I like Frost Like Ashes, "Tophet." Sounds A LOT like Cradle of Filth.

Other recommendations: Vardoger, Admonish, Firethrone, Frosthardr

For raw, check out Beeroth

On Spotify they have Amarth Sargon: Under the Moon and Sun.  I'm really diggin this album.  Problem, i can't find it.  Metalhelm is sold out.  Whats e few of these other websites you guys use to find hard to find albums?

lastfm has a few of his albums for free =)     I do love me some free.

Nevermind, lol!   itunes has it, duh.  I was making it harder than necessary on myself.

Brent Miller's site (http://brentschristianrockmetal.com/) might have more of Armath Sargon's stuff periodically. I got that album from Metal Helm shortly after it was released, so I'm not sure where you could find it now. I think all of AS's stuff has been very limited-edition.

As for good black metal, man, there's a lot.

I heartily second the Admonish and Vardoger recs, especially if you're just digging into it. Another really good one is Slechtvalk (the band that got me into it, and I still totally dig them)

Glad you mentioned Evroklidon; that album is a beast.

Divine Symphony is a good one for the symphonic side.

Dying Blaze is good blackened death, and pretty technical.

Vials of Wrath has two major releases so far: their first, blackened death; and their second, much more atmospheric BM. Both quite good.

Usynlig Tumult is also good.

Vaakevandring is excellent, but good luck finding anything for purchase. I got extremely lucky with my demo.

Nephesh is another good symphonic one.

Lengsel's album Solace is good progressive BM.

Golgota has a couple demos that are pretty good. Both Brent and Metal Helm might have them. The vocals are kind of a weird black croak, but I like this band.

I'll mention others as I think of them. The above is presented totally randomly.

Since I mentioned Slechtvalk, I'll give you a few more details. Their latest album, A Forlorn Throne, should be easy to get a hold of and it's really good melodic Viking metal. I still listen to it, and it was the first true extreme metal album I ever bought. It's quite epic.

Their album before it, At the Dawn of War, is a little more harsh, but no less epic.

The album before that, The War that Plagues the Lands, has proven difficult to find. I haven't listened to it yet.

Their first album, Falconry, was when it was a one-man band. It's really good, albeit slower and more atmospheric. I had to pay a steep price for this disc, but if you ever find it, it's a worthwhile purchase.

At the Dawn of War is my favorite of theirs. Check out this song from it:

Sorry for the quad post. This is probably the ultimate Slechtvalk song, Forsaken:

Jamming Slechtvalk samples on itunes and now on spotify.  Right along the lines of what i was looking for.

Came across Shadows of Paragon in my searches.  Also fits what I'm looking for/feeling right now.

Thanks again buddy, keep em coming.  This is pretty much a whole new, unexplored genre for me.

Ooh, nobody's mentioned Wintersoul either. Brutal black metal with some of the most insane drumming I've ever heard:

That's the former drummer from Clemency, btw. That guy is an animal behind the drumset.

Yeah, Wintersoul is really good. I think the band's still around, but haven't heard anything from them.

Here's something a little different. This is Black Leather, a blackened punk band. It's surprisingly catchy.

I'm not sure if you saw this in the free downloads thread, but I've got another good one. (and it's free!)

This is Epta Astera. Not really black metal, but they use some of the elements of it. What I really like about this band (other than free music) is their use of Gregorian-type chant in the music. It fits super well.

Here's the website, where you can download both of their albums:

Hey, Adam. That YouTube link went to a Black Leather video. Cool, but I don't think it's what you're after.
