Thought this would be a useful topic. List any free and band-sanctioned downloads here.

Here are a couple that I know of:

Eternal Emperor--blackened death metal. Their 3-song EP Sudwarts:

Kekal--experimental extreme metal from Indonesia. Their albums The Habit of Fire, Acidity, and 1000 Thoughts of Violence, as well as a bunch of other random songs:

Thanks!  I might post some here later.  I think that we had a topic like this once upon a time, but right now I'm too lazy to go searching for it :D  This will do, though.  I haven't listened to that Eternal Emperor EP in a while, but if I remember it was pretty good. :)

Well, I couldn't find the topic that I thought we created, so I guess I was imagining things :D  All the downloads from Come & Live are free (you can name your own price):  http://comeandlive.com/downloads/

Some of the better downloads include Showbread, See the Light, and Life in Your Way.

I wasn't aware of that site, Matthew. I'll check it out now. :)

This isn't a Christian band, but their lyrics are (as far as I can tell) pretty neutral; winter and such. Anyway, I'm pretty impressed with this band, and he (it's a one-man band) offers all of his releases for free:

Here's a song of his I've been listening to a lot today:

Matthew, if you don't want secular groups listed here feel free to delete this post.

Aurora Borealis, a pretty good black/death metal band from the US, offers their discography for free download here:

http://www.auroraborealis.org/html/downloads.html

Their latest album, The Beginning and End of Everything, is a concept album of, well, the beginning and end of everything. Pretty cool band. I haven't listened to their earlier work yet, but I rather like this newest album.

Embers offers their three releases for free download here:

http://embers.bandcamp.com/

Embers is a black/doom metal band, which seems to be a very rare genre combination. Too bad, because it's great stuff.

Okay so I checked out Arora Borealis' album and it was decent.  I liked the song "Stygian Depths."  I felt like the record was a bit too similar overall; there was not enough to keep my attention, which is unfortunate.  I think that the correct description would be blackened thrash metal. There is maybe a bit of death metal influence, but not much.  I've listened to Transfigural Form before and wasn't too impressed.  Arvinger is always an amazing band.  I'll continue to look through these and let you know what I think.  Thanks for all the links!

I agree with you about Aurora Borealis and Transfigural Form. I can only listen to two or three Aurora Borealis songs at once, now that I've had it for a while.

I'm more curious what you think about Last Days of the Sun and Embers, particularly their album Shadows.

Made a few more discoveries.

HMKids, a Warhammer 40,000-themed death metal band, offers a bunch of songs (like, 60), in a couple compilations on their website:

http://hmkids.ucoz.ru/

It's in Russian, so expect to use Google translate. I just started listening and it sounds promising. And they're singing growling about Warhammer, so how cool is that?
